Our Story

Baked with purpose,
rooted in the valley

Safeway Bakery has been a quiet fixture on Olympic Place NE for years — a place where Arlington residents start their mornings with a warm croissant and end their evenings picking up a loaf for tomorrow's table.

We bake by the clock, not by the order. Every morning our ovens fire before dawn so the bread is fresh when you walk in. Our recipes draw on classic techniques — long cold ferments, hand-laminated doughs, natural leavens — because we believe the best baking doesn't need shortcuts.

What We Make

From the oven, every day

A rotating selection shaped by season, ingredient availability, and what our bakers are passionate about that week.

Freshly baked artisan sourdough loaves cooling on a rack

Artisan Bread

Sourdough, ciabatta, multigrain, and seasonal loaves — each baked with a long fermentation for depth of flavor and a crust that cracks when you break it.

Golden butter croissants and flaky pastries on a marble surface

Pastries & Viennoiserie

Butter croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, and seasonal fruit tarts — laminated by hand each morning, baked until golden and shatteringly flaky.

Elegant celebration cake dusted with powdered sugar on a ceramic plate

Cakes & Celebration

Birthdays, weddings, quiet Sunday gatherings — custom cakes designed with you, baked from scratch, and finished with seasonal fruit or simple buttercream.

Assorted cookies, brownies, and small sweet treats arranged on a wooden board

Small Bites & Sweets

Cookie of the day, brownies, tartlets, and seasonal confections — perfect for an afternoon pause or a last-minute gift from the display case.

Our Craft

The details
you can taste

01

Long ferments

Our sourdough rests 24 to 48 hours. That patience builds flavor no ingredient list can replicate.

02

Hand-laminated doughs

Every croissant and pain au chocolat is folded by hand — layer by layer — for the texture we're known for.

03

Seasonal produce

We work with Skagit Valley growers so our fruit fillings and seasonal specials taste like the time of year they arrive.

04

Baked before you arrive

We don't bake to order. We bake early, so what you hold in your hands is already perfect.
